SRU hosts Grammy winner Libby Larsen
SLIPPERY ROCK -- Libby Larsen, the Grammy-Award winning producer and composer of more than 200 songs, is heading to Slippery Rock University for a residency Monday and Tuesday as part of the Kaleidoscope arts festival.
She will meet with music students and attend a free performance of her music presented by SRU students and faculty members at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Swope Music Hall.
Larsen received a Grammy for producing the CD “The Art of Arlene Auger.” Kaleidoscope continues through Tuesday.
Women’s Night Out set at Mercer Area Library
Mercer Area Library will host its third annual Women’s Night Out at 7 p.m. Monday.
The event will feature dessert, book displays, a door prize drawing and two presentations. Debbie Thompson of Nelson’s Flowers will speak on arranging fresh flowers, and Marilyn Stevens of Marilyn’s English Country Victoria will discuss shabby chic-style decorating. Seating is limited. The award-winning Mercer High School Speech Team will host the second evening of forensics at 7 p.m. today at the high school.
Mercer Speech Team Parents’ Boosters will also host a dessert reception afterward. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. They will be available at the door. This event is suggested for an audience of middle school age and older.
Help restore natural habitats at Jennings
Jennings Environmental Education Center seeks individuals and groups willing to spend a spring day helping to manage invasive, non-native plants at the park, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.
Participants must be 12 or older. As a thank-you, each will receive an invasive plant cookbook and work gloves. Lunch will be provided. Call the center to register at 724-794-6011.
Join in Day of Caring cleanup of Wolf Creek
The Wolf Creek Watershed Association will take part in cleaning up Wolf Creek as part of Grove City Area United Way’s Day of Caring, today.

Support local man with brain tumor at benefit
Barkeyville Church of God, located on Route 8 in Barkeyville, will hold a pasta dinner and bake sale to benefit Gary Schermerhorn, who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
The dinner is from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the church. Cost is $5, and take-out meals will be available. There will be musical entertainment upstairs in the church; if you play an instrument, bring it along.

Discover various ways to volunteer at Moraine
Explore the possibilities for volunteer service at McConnell’s Mill and Moraine State parks during a volunteer orientation and appreciation day, starting at 11 a.m. today.
Meet at the DCNR Region 2 Parks & Forestry office at 11. Following lunch, there will be tours of the No. 19 oil well site and the historic grist mill and recently-replaced turbine at McConnell’s Mill.
There are volunteer opportunities for individuals, families and groups of all ages, including studying wildlife; helping with youth and adult activities; guiding visitors through the grist mill; and working with the antique oil well machinery, among others.

Muscarella’s Wellness Walks taking sign-ups
HERMITAGE — Sign-ups are being taken through May 16 for the fourth annual Dr. Dean Muscarella’s Wellness Walks. The non-profit event brings awareness to the importance of prevention, exercise and wellness living.
The weekly walks -- from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays, May 31 through July 19 in Buhl Farm park, Hermitage -- include wellness speakers, prizes and T-shirts. Cost is $20 for adults; and $5 those 12 and younger. Dr. Muscarella will donate $1,000 in cash prizes.

Get moving with Girl Scouts at annual walk
The Girl Scouts’ third annual GirlsWalk! Walkathon and Fitness Fair is set for May 3 at Presque Isle State Park’s Rotary Pavilion.
Check-in and on-site registrations start at 9 a.m., with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. – rain or shine. The free Fitness Fair is from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Walkers can take a break from all the fun and enjoy a free lunch at the Rotary Pavilion provided by Bob Evans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To register, visit www. gswpa.org.
