Special events

• Mercer Area Library will hold their Third Annual Women’s Night Out at 7 p.m. April 28.

This social evening will include desserts, special book displays and two presentations. Debbie Thompson of Nelson’s Flowers will speak on “Fresh Flower Arranging: and Marilyn Stevens of Marilyn’s English Country Victorian will present “Shabby Chic Decorating.”

A question and answer period will follow. Seating is limited, so its necessary to stop in for your free ticket. There will be a door prize. Info: 724-662-4233.

• Due to the increasing cost of food, The Brandy Springs Senior Center scheduled Floy Moreira, a master gardner, to demonstrate how to raise vegetables in a pot on one’s deck at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Floy will show the equipment and supplies needed. Also the center council will discuss summer outings, tours, picnics and camping.

On April 23 Nancy Ollinger will enlighten the group on Historical events with her talk “Places Long Gone.”

Anyone interested is invited to attend. Each is speaking from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., if staying for lunch please call 724-662-1010.

• The Stoneboro Garden and Preservation Society holds Posies and Plants in the Park plus lunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10.

Plants for Mother’s Day, hanging baskets, vegetable plants and shrubs will be available. Olde Tyme Stoneboro Ladies Auxiliary will have chili dogs and beverage available.

• Centennial Place presents “A Family Affair” from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday in the E.J McCluskey gymnasium of Farrell Area School District.

There will be health screenings, educational information, employment resources and refreshments.

• New Beginnings Christian Church, Delaware Township, is having a family skate night from 6 to 8 p.m. April 27 at Papa Wheelys, 3087 Hadley Road, Hadley.

Admission is free. You can bring your own roller blades or skates or rent them for $1.
