Martha Wareham to mark 94th birthday with card shower

SANDY LAKE — Martha Wareham is celebrating her 94th birthday Sunday with a card shower.
She retired in 1980 from what is now Polk Center, where she was a seamstress for 15 years. An active member of the Sandy Lake community, she joined the ladies auxiliary of the Volunteer Fire Department in 1946 and has been a charter member since 1939 of the Rebecca Lodge.
She joined Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church in 1938. She enjoys McQuiston Center by the Park, Sandy Lake. Birthday wishes can be sent to 5333 Franklin Road, Sandy Lake 16145.
First United Methodist taking Angel Food orders

SHARON — Angel Food Ministries orders will be taken from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday and Monday; and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon.
Cost of the basic food unit is $30; and senior box, $28. Cash, money order and food stamps will be accepted as payment. Checks will not be taken.
Food can be picked up from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 21 in the church. A small box, laundry basket or cooler should be brought for picking up food. Info: 724-983-0200.
Same Page training set at Hickory VFW

HERMITAGE — Same Page Training will be from 8 a.m. to noon Friday in Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage. Local law enforcement give training to help curb underage drinking and to be consistent in citing underage drinking violators. Mary Beth Wolfe of Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will provide the instruction. Training is provided by Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission.
Library book group meets today to discuss conflicts

GROVE CITY -- Grove City Community Library’s Spring Book Group will explore national and international conflicts that have involved the United States.
Beginning with the French and Indian War and ending with the conflict in Afghanistan, discussions of the novels will provide a panorama of significant events and memorable characters.
Novels to be discussed are: Today, “The Year of Jubilo: A Novel of the Civil War” by Howard Bahr; March 12, “Regeneration” by Pat Barker; April 9, “Suite Francaise” by Irene Nemirovsky; May 14, “Tree of Smoke” by Denis Johnston; and June 11, “A Thousand Splendid Suns.” The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the library.
